Americas Army 2.0: Special Forces is an incredible freeware game where players play to reach green berret status by completing different missions from the Special Forces Assigment and Selection process.

Included in Americas Army 2.0 there are many different training missions to help the player get used to the controls in the game. You may train for the Weapons Specialist, Intelligence, Engineer, Communications, and Combat Medic roles.

In Americas Army network play or single play you can be a part of the highly trained team to go on various missions such as search and rescue, surveillance, reconnaissance and unconventianal warfare.

Weapons in Americas Army include the MP5SD6 Remington 870 shotgun, the AT4 (anti tank rocket) and BDM (for bunker demolition). It also includes the M4 Carbine (Picatinny rail mod system: mod system for attaching laser-aiming devices and sighting systems).

As a part of the American Army you are bound by the rules of a soldier; Honour, duty and integrity which is a great feature of the game showing that much time was spent in developing it. Another great feature is that mission completion not only based on who is defeated but also on team effort and how well they adheres to the terms of conduct.

Another game from the ’m up series. This is a dart game. In case you hadn’t realized already. For all those people who live in caves, with computers, and don’t know how you play darts, I shall explain now. For all those who know and don’t live in caves, and still have computers, you can skip the next couple of lines. What you need to do, is AIM for the dartboard and try to hit it.
The game is a good substitute for the real thing, for those who don’t have a dartboard at hand and still wish to hurl some darts. The graphics are simply super darling and the background music is well suited to the flawless gameplay.

The latest offering from the good folks at binaryzoo is Echoes, a downloadable game for Windows, and it is a manic, and I mean that, manic shooter. Before I get too far into this, let me quote from the games’ instructions: “if you may be effected by flashing lights then please set Screen FX to off.” The action in this game is fast, furious and very visually active. Their trademark neon graphics combined with the intense backgrounds may have an effect on some. Though, disclaimers aside, as someone who can have the graphics on full – this game is really, really cool.

Self confessedly “like Asteroids” and “a bit like Geometry Wars,” Echoes is part these and wholly its own. Starting off slow, you are given an entirely too brief introduction to the game where small glowing outlined “asteroids” slowly creep across the screen. Soon, you’ll reach level two, where slightly larger ones are introduced. Then larger, then larger. After that… well, I’ll leave that up to you to find out.

Although not evident in the initial running of the game, not only do you get points for shooting, shooting, shooting things, there are medals to win as well, called in game “trials”. These are displayed to you at the end of the game and can be recognized while in game by the large “ZOOT” (Zoo Trials) which flashes about the screen. There are ten of these trials to complete in each of the three difficulty settings and completion of them all will result in 100%.

As of the current download, online scoring is unavailable though, according to binaryzoo:

“The online score system will certainly happen. It is already coded and will be added as soon as our new website is finished. However the new site is being written by someone else and it is taking longer than I expected so I can’t honestly say when it will be available.”

Yes, Nifflas has done it again, the author of Within a Deep Forest and Knytt has just released a new game, Knytt Stories and boy, is it ever a game and a half.

Firstly the game seems muddier than the original – a bit slower, then the reason becomes clear. As opposed to Knytt, with its hero who could just climb walls, no questions asked, this version is about a girl (well, the default level is) and she can’t climb walls, or jump high or run… until she collects the required powerup.

The story of Knytt Stories is that a horrible machine somewhere is sucking the life out of the once beautiful home land of these creatures. Somehow, the girl character has to shut it off and restore beauty to the gloomy, overridden land. Such a task is not a simple one and it will take patience, diligence, a keen eye and a whole lot of exploring to accomplish.

Clocking in at around two or three hours, the game itself does not last an overly long time, but the thing is, it doesn’t need to. Included with the game is a massively customizable level editor which gives you free reign over every aspect of a level you can create. The size of it, the look of it, the music and ambient sounds are all changeable and manageable to just how you see fit. Then, of course, share your levels with the world. Some are available already from Nifflas’ official site.

For dial-up users, yes, it’s a pretty hefty download, but what you get is a completely immersive world in which you are the controller. The game has literally boundless capabilities and levels will no doubt continue to be made for a long time by the communities around, which extends the game play immeasurably. For the rest of us who can download it in a snap – don’t hesitate to do so, for exactly the same reasons as posted above. Knytt Stories is a fantastic game and is not one to hesitate downloading.

For all of you Star Wars fanatics out there or even for you non Star Wars fanatics is an awesome game! The Battle of Endor is from The Return of the Jedi, based on the battle against the Second Death Star.

This is an easy to use, yet challenging, six stage flight simulation game (with joystick support) where your task is to fly your X-Wing through and shoot down the large amounts of TIE Fighters, Star Destroyers and TIE Interceptors protecting the cruisers and the Millennium Falcon. Once you have defeated all of these you are faced with Darth Vader’s ship, the Super Star Destroyer “Executor”.

The graphics are great with the classic Star Wars scrolling text to introduce you to the game while the in game graphics are 3D and the models almost exactly resemble the crafts from the Star Wars movie.

One of the greatest freeware games of our time! Icy Tower combines great graphics, catchy background music and addictive gameplay. This is another classic by Johan Peitz. This fella writes terrific games.

In Icy Tower you must help Harold the homeboy to impress his friends by jumping to the highest level in the Icy Tower. The higher you jump the more points you receive. You get extra points for performing tricks. (You’ll soon figure out how.) Enough said. Download it already.

Icy Tower 1.2 has been a long time in the making and it is finally here!
